2. FAQ’s for Company Account & Real Estate Agents
How do I book a company or real estate agent service call?
You can complete our online company/agency booking form or phone our customer service team on 1300 652 100.
We do require a work order for all company/agency booking forms to confirm the details and authorisation for the service call against your account.
What payment options are available for company or real estate agent accounts?
We prefer pre-payment by any major credit card(Visa, Mastercard). If you do not have a Company account then we require you to log a credit card with our customer service team prior to the service call. As you will generally not be on-site this makes it easy for everyone involved to process the repair and the account afterwards.
We also offer 30 days accounts to approved account holders.
Please contact our customer service team for a Company/Agency Account.
Please note: All accounts should be paid on time and may incur overdue fees for late payment. If you have any queries or issues with our payment terms please discuss this with our Customer Service team before your service call being conducted. We can usually accommodate most requirements.
What is a Work Order and why do I need to provide one?
A work order is an authorization from your company to NWAR to do work which contains as a minimum the location of the repair, any contact details, the appliance to be repaired and what is wrong.
We recommend including a “go-ahead if below” value, ie “Go ahead with repair if the total cost is below $500+GST” as this will save you money if we are able to install any parts required on our first visit.
This can be sent to us via email to jobs@nwar.com.au.
How can I control the cost of the service call?
The best way to control your costs is to set a “Go ahead” value of approx $500+GST for your service call.
This means that if the parts required are within a reasonable value you will be saved the cost of any return labour costs, if possible, and you will be quoted for the repair if the costs exceed this “Go ahead” value.
What information do you require to arrange the service call with staff on-site or my tenant?
To arrange the service call we need the address of the service call, the full name of the tenant or site contact, mobile and landline contact number, and email if possible.
If the appliance can not be repaired or it is uneconomical to repair do we still need to pay for the service call?
It is not cost-effective for us to offer free quotes. However, if the appliance needs to be replaced our “Risk-Free Service Call” means that we can offer great rates on replacement and can credit up to 100% of the service call cost to the purchase of the new appliance.
Speak with our customer service or sales team for more details.
As a Real Estate Agency, I am only a representative of the property owner, why are we responsible for payment?
As a Real Estate Agent, while we understand that you act on behalf of the property owner, generally we are not provided any details of the property owner and they will not have viewed & agreed to our terms & conditions.
Your company has engaged us and remains responsible for the processing of our account according to your responsibility as the owners’ Agent.
If you wish to avoid this responsibility for the account then we require the owners of the property to book with us directly.
3. FAQ’s for Washing Machine Repairs
Washer not rinsing clothes properly
If you find that your clothes are not properly rinsed after a wash, it indicates that there’s a problem with the washer and you need to take action. First, ensure that you’re following the instructions from the owner’s manual regarding the amount of soap, amount of load, and so forth.
If these issues are not the ones causing the problem, the cause could be a malfunctioning pump, a broken switch assembly, a broken door, a damaged water inlet valve, or something else. Therefore, contact a technician to check it out and fix it.
Washing machine fill problems
Washing machines sometimes can overflow or fail to fill. If water enters the washer with the right pressure, water could be draining out prematurely. Alternatively, the issue could be with the timer, water-level switch, or temperature selector.
If your washer is overflowing, it’s likely that you have a defective pressure switch or water inlet valve that will require repair. In either case, you’ll need to call an expert to diagnose the problem and perform the necessary repair.
Washer doesn’t finish the cycle
If your washer continues to run even after the cycle should have been completed, it’s likely that your washer’s time has a problem and will need to be repaired.
However, it could also be a different issue, but this would require a professional to diagnose.
Washer won’t spin/agitate
Your washer can fail to spin or agitate due to a number of things. First, you need to make sure you put the recommended load as too large loads can make the machine unbalanced.
Secondly, you must ensure that the lid is completely closed and the switch is connected.
Otherwise, there could be a problem with the switch, motor coupling, drain pump, or drain belt, which will require an expert to diagnose and repair or replace the part that’s causing the problem.
Washer leaking water
Different factors can cause a washing machine to leak. The most common, however, is a bad seal or loose connection. Drain hoses and water lines can become detached due to vibrations or movements, or the hoses could be damaged.
If water is leaking from the washer door, there could be a problem with the door gasket seal or could be a sign of dirt and detergent build-up.
Therefore, leaks can require the replacement of drain hoses or the door gasket, in which case, you would have to call a washing machine technician. Other failures can also cause water leakage and would require a technical diagnostic to find the root cause.
Noisy washing machine
If your washer is noisy, it could be an object such as a coin being somewhere it shouldn’t be, or it could be a sign of a part that needs replacement. If you hear a gurgling sound or a clicking sound, you may have something in the washer drain or the drain line.
Therefore, check your drain and remove the objects causing the sound. However, if there are no foreign objects, you should call a technician to inspect and repair the pump and pump motor, the drive belt, shock absorbers, or any other part that could be causing the noise.
Washer won’t turn on
If your washing machine won’t start, it may be that it’s not receiving power. If it stopped suddenly instead of continuing to the next cycle, it’s likely that you might have overloaded it.
Therefore, make sure that the machine is getting power; the lid switch is shut, and the washer isn’t overloaded. If all these seem fine, but your washer won’t run, it could mean a serious problem and you’ll need to call a professional washing machine technician.
How much will a washing machine repair cost me?
At Nationwide Appliance Repair, we handle every repair uniquely. Therefore, the costs of washing machine repairs vary depending on a number of factors, such as the brand, the severity of the damage, and replacement parts.
However, we offer customers very friendly rates and quality service. Contact us to get a quote.
Should I replace or repair my washing machine?
The decision to replace or repair a washer depends on the cost of the repair and the age of the machine. The average lifespan of washing machines is about 10 years. Before the lifespan ends, it’s better to repair the washer.
NWAR can repair any washing machine problem and extend the life of your washer, thereby saving you costs. However, if the washer is past its average lifespan, it may be better to replace it. NWAR experts can also help you determine if a repair is worth the investment.
Why does my washing machine have a bad odour?
Washer odours usually come from residues, mold, and mildew that accumulate inside the washer when a washer is not properly cleaned.
The best way to handle washer odours is to prevent them. Here are a few ways to avoid the bad odours:
– Use the right detergent for your washer
– Remove wet clothes immediately after a wash
– Clean the filters regularly
– Leave the door open for a while after every wash
Does my washing machine need to be level?
Yes. The washer should be level for proper operation. If a washer is not level with all four legs touching the floor, it will rock back and forth leading to noisy vibrations that can damage the machine as well as walls and floors.
Therefore, ensure the washer is level by adjusting the leveling legs to the right height and tightening the lock nut.
How much laundry should I put into the washer?
Overloading your washer can lead to inefficiency, and your garments might end up wrinkled. Check the loading instructions to determine the right load. Generally, clothes should be distributed loosely and evenly inside the washer.
They require a certain amount of room to move around and get sufficient amounts of water and detergent. The laundry should not fill the washer tub beyond three-quarters. For top-loaders, don’t pile the clothes above the agitator and for a front-loading machine, the load should not go past the last row of holes at the front.
Should I repair my washing machine on my own or call a professional?
If your washer is not working as it should, you may want to try fixing the problem yourself. You can fix a few issues that don’t require much technical knowledge such as leveling and bad odour.
However, if you don’t know what’s causing the problem, you should call a professional. This will save you time, effort, and costs, and help you prevent further damage to the washer.
Why won’t my front load washer drain or spin?
Check if the door is locked as the washer will not spin if the door is not closed completely.
Also, ensure that the washer is not overloaded as overloading could also prevent it from spinning or draining properly.
Check if the pump or hose is clogged. Also, ensure that the drain hose is as straight as possible.
How do I get rid of soap residue after a cycle?
Soap residue is usually an indication that you’re using too much detergent. You can remove the soap residue using simple steps.
– First, wipe the inside of the washer using dry cloths.
– Fill the washer with water and put 2 cups of white distilled vinegar.
– Run the machine on a full cycle and run a second rinse cycle.
If the residue is not completely removed, then run the cycle again.
My washer doesn’t keep water hot. What could be the problem?
Many people think there is a problem with the washing machine when they can’t feel any hot water through the door. But this is a common misconception as it does not necessarily mean that the washer is faulty.
The water inside the washer is only hot for a short period during a wash. Moreover, most washing machine doors are fitted with an outer plastic insulating cover which makes it hard to feel any hot water.
4. FAQ’s for Dishwasher Repairs
Dishwasher won’t start
If the dishwasher doesn’t start, check the power source and make sure it’s well-connected. If it is, you may have blown a fuse, or there may be an issue with your electrical outlet.
Don’t try to fix the electricity yourself; instead, call a professional to check it. However, check the door latch before you call a technician. If your dishwasher door isn’t latched, it may prevent the dishwasher from starting.
The dishwasher runs too long
If your dishwasher’s water is not hot enough, the run cycle will take longer because it needs to heat the water to at least 120 degrees to perform efficiently.
Therefore, test the water from the faucet nearest your dishwasher by putting it in a cup and placing a thermometer. If the water temperature is not at least 120 degrees, call a technician to adjust your water heater’s thermostat setting.
Dishes not drying
Have you noticed your dishes always coming out wet? In most cases, the problem, in this case, is usually with the dishwasher’s heating element. The other likely cause is a faulty rinse aid dispenser. Dishes won’t dry well without rinse aid.
Also, a faulty high-limit thermostat can cause the heat to shut off before the dishes are fully dry. Therefore, if your dishes are not drying, seek the help of a professional technician.
Water won’t stop
If the water coming in your dishwasher does not stop and starts flooding, the inlet valve could be stuck open. Also, there could be a problem with the float switch which detects the levels of water in the dishwasher.
If the float switch is faulty, it doesn’t detect when your dishwasher is full hence will need to be repaired or replaced. Therefore, call a technician as soon as possible, so you don’t have to deal with flooding and water spillage.
Dishwasher not cleaning properly
One of the most regular complaints that we get from customers is about the dishwasher not cleaning dishes well. In most cases, negligence and poor maintenance are the main causes. If dishes are not rinsed thoroughly of all food particles, the residue will just be circulating inside the unit and might block spray arms and nozzles.
Overloading can also hinder efficient water circulation. Therefore, make sure you remove the debris and other particles regularly and clean the washer frequently. If the dishwasher still doesn’t clean properly, call a technician to inspect it and rectify the problem.
Water leakage
A leaking dishwasher can be a menace for you if you don’t find the problem fast. If you notice small or large amounts of water pooling from the dishwasher, it could be that your dishwasher is not leveled.
If it’s leaning towards the front, the water is likely to leak out through the front of the dishwasher or the door. Level it by adjusting the leveling legs at the front.
Water could also leak if the door is not closing properly or if the door gasket is damaged. In this case, you might require a new door gasket.
Also, check the clamps and seals of the drain hoses. If the problem is not leveling, call a technician to assess the unit to avoid further leakage.
Dishwasher not draining
This could be a problem of drain hose blockage or sink trap. Leftover food and broken dishware can block the dishwasher’s drain pump.
Make sure there are no clogs lodged in the drain hose or drain pump that could be blocking the drain hose or drain pump. However, the issue could also be a faulty drain pump, which would, therefore, require replacement.
Can I replace the front panel of my dishwasher?
Yes. It’s possible to replace the front panel of your dishwasher if it’s marred or damaged, or if you want to change the panel to match your other kitchen appliances. Ensure that you use the manufacturer-approved replacement part.
It’s important to know that repairing appliances can be dangerous hence you should use the proper safety equipment and the right tools. If you’re not confident you can handle the task, call us to have a qualified technician do it for you.
Why doesn’t my dishwasher clean dishes well?
Poor cleaning is a common problem and is mainly caused by insufficient water in the dishwasher and the float getting stuck in the raised position.
Another likely cause is a faulty inlet valve or a clogged inlet screen. To solve the issue, clean the spray arm, filter, and float. Also, ensure that the floater moves up and down freely.
How long can a technician take to install a dishwasher?
Dishwasher replacement usually takes about 1 – 2 hours, from removing the existing dishwasher to installing and testing a new one. Even complex replacement will not keep you at home for longer than just a few hours.
My cups and glasses are coming out cloudy, spotty and filmy. What is the problem?
There are several possible explanations for this issue. They include the use of excess detergent, water flow restriction, and the use of hard water.
Therefore, check your dishwasher’s owner’s manual to know the right amount of detergent as well as the type and amount of water to use.
Why won’t my dishwasher dry dishes?
If your dishwasher is not drying properly, it may be due to several different reasons. One of the main reasons is user error. You can fix the problem by loading the dishwasher properly and using a rinse aid and the right detergent.
In other cases, there could be a problem with the heating element the high-limit thermostat, or the rinse aid dispenser. In this case, it’s best to leave the repair to the experts.
Why is my dishwasher taking too long to complete a cycle?
It’s normal for the newer dishwashers to take as long as 2 hours to finish a cycle. If the water that enters the dishwasher is cold, the heater will take longer to heat it. To minimize the time it takes to clean the dishes, increase the incoming water temperature before you turn on the dishwasher.
Some dishwashers also drain and refill when they sense too much debris in the washer water causing longer cycle times. The other issue could be a faulty heater, which would require the expertise of a professional.
Why isn’t my dishwasher draining water completely after a cycle?
About 1 cup of water is usually left after a cycle to prevent the seals from drying up, and the dishwasher pumps it out before the next load.
However, if it’s more than a cup, there could be a problem with the drain valve, pump filter, or drain hose. This will require you to call a qualified technician to examine and fix the issue.
What should I expect to pay for dishwasher repairs?
Although a dishwasher is a luxury household item, it doesn’t mean that its repair will be expensive. The repair fee will include the price of spare parts and labour.
We offer the best rates in Melbourne and give a warranty on parts and labour. Once we diagnose the issue, we will give you a quote before commencing the repair.
5. FAQ’s for Oven Repairs
Oven overheating and burning everything
Overheating can be a result of thermostat failure. A thermostat regulates oven temperatures and can lead to extremely high temperatures when faulty.
If this is the case, you need to change the thermostat so that the oven can start operating correctly.
Also, a faulty thermal fuse can fail to cut off the current when the temperature goes too high. Another possible cause is a wrongly calibrated oven. For all these issues, call a professional oven repair technician.
Oven not heating up
One of the main causes of your oven heating up is a faulty oven igniter. The heating element can also cause the oven not to heat up if it’s damaged.
In some instances, this can also be caused by a faulty thermal switch.
Oven does not cook food evenly
An oven that does not bake evenly can be disappointing. In such a case the first things to check out for are the heating elements and temperature sensor.
You can diagnose this by visually checking if the heating elements are glowing after preheating. If they are not working correctly, you will need a professional to replace them.
Another possibility is a faulty fan. The fan functions as a heat distributor around the oven cavity for even baking.
Oven door won’t shut
If the oven door won’t lock, there is no need to panic as this can be fixed. Usually, this can happen when the door hinges stop moving properly.
Door seals or gaskets that line the inside edge of the oven door could also be the problem. These parts should be replaced by a professional oven repair technician to ensure the job is done right.
The oven is too noisy
Normal operations of the oven usually make some clicking noise. This occurs when the control relay cycles the bake and broil elements on and off. However, if the noise is unusually loud, it may be an indication of an underlying problem.
When the noise occurs when the oven is switched on, the motor oven could be faulty. If the noise is produced after the oven has been operating for a while, there is a possibility that the cooling fan could be defective.
Replacing these parts yourself may be difficult and unsafe hence it’s best to contact an oven repair expert to fix the issues.
Oven does not self-clean
Most of today’s oven models have the self-clean feature that uses high temperatures to burn off all leftovers ensuring your oven stays clean.
The oven has to lock itself during self-cleaning. If the door lock system is defective, this process will not happen.
Other possible causes include faulty temperature sensors, oven control boards or wiring problems. It’s best to consult a technician to diagnose the cause and solutions.
Oven temperature does not match the gauge
Setting the temperature right only to end up with undercooked food can be frustrating.
This is mainly because of the failure by the oven to heat up to the correct temperature. This can be caused by various factors, which include a faulty temperature sensor, bake element or igniter.
These elements need to be checked and replaced if defective. If they are working properly, there could be a problem with calibration. You will need an expert to replace parts or recalibrate the oven.
Oven cuts out after operating for a while
If your oven cuts out suddenly after being on for a while, there might be a problem with overheating. This could be caused by a faulty safety thermostat or oven thermostat.
A defective oven cooling fan motor can also be a possible cause. These elements should be replaced by a professional to get the oven functioning again.
Oven won’t turn on
If your oven does not turn on, there could be a couple of things causing this issue. One of the problems could be internal fuses which could have blown up or have a wiring issue. A faulty igniter can also be the cause.
You can visually identify if the igniter is working well as it usually glows while working appropriately. The temperature sensor can also play a huge role if faulty.
Also, if the bake and broil element is damaged or disconnected, your oven will not start. Due to all these possible causes, it’s best to consult an oven repair expert.
Why does my oven make a clicking sound?
Clicking sounds are normal hence don’t need to cause an alarm.
When the oven is in use, the control relays cycle the bake and broil elements on and off thus producing the sound. This maintains the correct oven temperature.
There is a weird smell from my oven, what could be wrong?
Different smells indicate different issues in your oven. Some are normal while others depict an underlying problem. The first step is to identify the particular smell coming from the oven.
If there is a strong smell similar to a rotten egg, it’s an indication of a gas leak. You need to shut the gas off and call a professional to identify the problem to avoid an explosion.
The smell of burning plastic usually indicates an electrical problem that should be instantly repaired. Food spillage can also be a potential cause. You need to thoroughly clean the oven in case of any food spillage.
A foul smell from the oven can be as a result of the oven self-cleaning. This is usually normal and will go away with time
My oven keeps burning everything, how do I stop this?
You may be following all instructions and doing everything right, but your food still comes out burnt. The first precaution you need to adhere to is to make sure that the baking trays are of good quality and are well placed in the oven.
Always ensure that your oven is correctly calibrated. A poorly calibrated oven can lead to abnormally high temperatures. If this does not fix the situation, the thermostat is likely faulty hence you’ll need to call a technician.
The temperature of my oven doesn’t match the gauge, what is the problem?
Over time, the oven’s internal components may lose accuracy or wear out. This leads to the oven not heating to the correct temperature which can be detrimental for your baking and cooking.
You might think buying an oven thermometer will work but that is quite tiresome, or else there might be an underlying problem. The bake element, igniter, or thermostat could be faulty and may need replacement.
You can take some precautions to achieve the desired results. You should ensure the oven is preheated before baking since this can alter your cooking results. At Nationwide, we can calibrate oven temperatures back to normal.
My door won’t unlock, is this fixable?
The oven door usually locks itself during self-cleaning. If the door doesn’t unlock, the oven temperature control could have malfunctioned.
You need to unplug the oven and then plug it back in after 5 min. This usually resets the control, and the oven door should unlock.
However, if this does not happen, the door locking assembly may be malfunctioning and may need to be removed for inspection.
My oven knob won’t turn, what could be the problem?
In case the oven knob does not turn, you first need to shut down the oven. Pull off the knob or use a screwdriver to pry it up.
Check the center stem to see if it’s stripped or cracked. A broken control knob causes it to twist around without turning the control.
In such a case, you will have to replace the knob. If this does not fix the issue, the oven control board or bake element could be defective. That’s why you need a professional to diagnose the problem.
Do your technicians carry oven spare parts?
Yes! Our technicians always carry a variety of spare parts that are required for the repair. We always ask for the oven model and other details so that our technician can carry all spare parts that may be necessary to ensure job completion on the spot.
In case we don’t have the spare parts after diagnosis, we order the parts and make sure they are delivered fast. Our spare parts are of high quality and have a 12 months warranty.
6. FAQ’s for Cooktop Repairs
Cooktop not turning on
If your electric cooktop won’t turn on, check the connection to make sure it’s properly plugged in. If the cooktop is plugged in, check whether the outlet is defective using a multimeter or by plugging another appliance.
If these tests fail and you confirm that the outlet is faulty, contact an electrician to fix the outlet.
However, if your outlet is not defective, but the cooktop still doesn’t turn on, there could be other issues with the appliance. This will require the intervention of a certified technician.
Electric cooktop producing multiple sparks
If you turn on your cooktop and notice sparks from your electric cooktop, it is usually a sign of damage to the heating elements.
Sparks are dangerous and call for immediate repair. Heating elements can get damaged by excessive weight or temperature.
The sparks can also be brought about by loose wire connections around the coil burners. Call a repair technician as soon as you notice the sparks.
Damaged coils
If you use your cooktop regularly, it’s normal for the coils to wear out. Signs of a damaged electric coil include cracks, bubbles, and blisters. The coils will also not heat up when you turn on the cooktop.
Unfortunately, these coils cannot be repaired, but can only be replaced. Replacing the coils requires qualified technicians who have the technical know-how, therefore, contact one.
Indicator lights won’t turn on
Most cooktops have indicator lights or displays that show you the temperature settings.
If the displays or indicator lights don’t turn on, the likely problem is a defective control switch, and a professional can help you fix the switch.
In other cases, the problem could be burned-out bulbs which you’ll just have to replace.
Cooktop won’t’ adjust the temperature of the burners
Electric cooktops are popular among homeowners mainly because they offer accurate temperature settings. If you cannot regulate the temperature, you might have problems cooking and end up spoiling your dinner.
The most common cause is a defective infinite switch which controls the flow of electricity to the coils. It could also be a problem with the internal ignition switch. Both of these issues can be fixed by an experienced cooktop repair technician.
Cracked cooktop cover
Modern cooktops are fitted with a porcelain or glass cover which is susceptible to cracking due to constant heating and cooling.
If you accidentally pour cold liquid on the cover when hot, the top can crack due to the sudden cooling.
Also, the top can crack if heavy items drop on it. In this case, the cooktop cover will need to be replaced, and a professional will ensure the job is done right.
Electric coils won’t heat
If your cooktop is getting power, but the coils don’t heat when you turn the appliance on, there’s likely a loose connection between the cooktop and the coils.
The coils may become loose due to the use of saucepans and pots which are too big for the coils. Therefore, you’ll need to install the coils properly for them to receive power.
Another issue could be with the cooktop’s internal ignition switch. Resolving these issues yourself can be a challenge hence is best left to the professionals.
My gas cooktop burners are clicking. Is this normal?
If the igniter is clicking in the off position, check the knob to ensure it’s completely off and popped out.
However, it’s common to hear several burners clicking when you attempt to light only one burner. Igniters may also click in multiple places due to moisture after cleaning. Therefore, ensure the unit is dry before you try igniting.
Why is my electric cooktop not working?
If your cooktop is not working properly, check if the knobs are properly set. They should be depressed before positioning in a setting. Also, check if the coil elements are inserted correctly.
Sometimes the control lock may be accidentally set hence hindering the cooktop from starting. Therefore, make sure the control lock is unlocked.
My surface burners won’t ignite. What is the problem?
This is a common question that customers ask our technicians. If your surface burners won’t ignite, it could be because the burners are wet. If the burners are wet from a recent cleaning, they may not ignite, and you’ll need to allow them to dry or blow cool air on them using a hairdryer.
Another possible reason is if the ports on the burners are clogged. To unclog them, refer to the owner’s manual for cleaning recommendations. Also, check if the gas connection is correctly connected.
When can I expect a technician to come to repair my cooktop?
Quality Appliance Repairs is dedicated to providing prompt services to our customers so they can return to normal operation as quickly as possible.
Mostly, we are able to schedule a day and time of the repair when you book. However, during busy times, we might need to coordinate all our customers and may ask you to give us 2 preference times.
We also offer same-day service but it is subject to technicians’ availability.
How can I know if my cooktop needs repair?
Several signs can tell you when your cooktop needs repair. Some of them include non-functional burners, heating issues, smelling gas, glass breakage, and uneven cooking of food.
If you see these warnings, contact a professional technician to repair the cooktop as it can be dangerous.
How much does it cost to replace a cracked glass?
The price of a glass cooktop replacement varies depending on the model of the cooktop. Generally, the price ranges between $150 and $500, or higher.
How do I remove scratches from an induction cooktop?
Scratches are a common problem in cooktops. For minor scratches, you can remove them using baking soda and water.
However, you should avoid scrubbing the glass with abrasive materials.
7. FAQ’s for Fridge Repairs
Fridge not cooling or getting cold enough
If the fridge is not cooling, it might not be getting power, or the thermostat could be altered. Dirty and clogged condenser coils might also be a cause. Therefore, you need to clean them thoroughly to ensure they work properly.
Make sure nothing is blocking the air vents. The air vents allow cold air to flow and can result in inconsistent temperatures if blocked.
If any of these fixes don’t work, the door gaskets, evaporator fan, or condenser could be defective and may need to be replaced. This should be undertaken by a qualified technician so that he can pinpoint the exact cause of the problem.
Fridge being too cold and freezing everything
If your fridge is freezing food, the temperature control thermostat might not be working properly. This might cause the refrigerator to run longer causing the fresh food compartment to be too cold. The air damper should also be checked for faults.
If it’s broken or doesn’t close properly, it will let too much cold air into the compartment. Alternatively, the temperature control board may be faulty, causing it to send continuous voltage to the compressor or fan motors. This causes the fridge to be too cold.
To determine which of these components is defective, you will need a refrigerator expert.
Water dispenser not working
The first reason why your dispenser might not be working is if the water tube in the door is frozen. This can be fixed by simply thawing the water out. To avoid water freezing in the tube, you should always make sure the freezer is set at the right temperature. Another possible cause is a defective water inlet valve.
The valve is the one that opens to supply water to the dispenser. If it’s not working, it may need to be replaced. A clogged water filter can also restrict the flow of water to the dispenser hence causing it to malfunction. You require a technician to diagnose the faulty component and repair or replace it.
Fridge not defrosting
If your fridge is not defrosting properly or not defrosting at all, there may be a problem with several components. The defrost control board may fail hence the refrigerator may not go to the defrost cycle.
Alternatively, the defrost timer, defrost heater assembly, or defrost thermostat may be defective and has to be replaced. Such a problem may be difficult and unsafe to solve by yourself, and you need a professional to troubleshoot the problem and fix it.
Fridge leaking water
Water leaks from the fridge can be not only a bother but also a danger in the kitchen. One of the common causes is a clogged defrost drain. This makes the water to overflow the drain trough leaking on to the floor.
You can easily unclog the drain by thawing the ice or flushing with hot water. However, if this is not the cause, the water tank assembly, water inlet valve, water filter housing or drain pan may be cracked or damaged.
In such a case, there is no quick fix you can do hence you need to call an expert technician to diagnose the problem and replace the defective part.
Freezer is cold, but the fridge is warm
If the fridge is warm while the freezer is cold and functioning properly, there could be an issue with the evaporator fan.
The evaporator fan pushes cold air into the fridge system to keep it cool. Another possible cause is a faulty damper control assembly. The damper control regulates the cold air entering the fridge section from the freezer.
Alternatively, a defective thermistor or temperature control board can be a problem and need to be replaced. In any of such cases, you will need to call a refrigerator technician to fix them.
Everything in my refrigerator is freezing. What is the issue?
Before doing anything, you need to check the refrigerator thermostat to correct the temperature settings.
If you set it appropriately and it doesn’t function appropriately, it could be faulty, and you may need the help of Quality Appliance Repair technicians.
Alternatively, the air damper may be broken or stuck hence not able to regulate the amount of cold air that enters the refrigerator.
Do you offer a warranty for your fridge repairs?
We offer 3 months service labour warranty on all repairs and 12 months warranty on all spare parts but wear and tear parts are not included in the parts warranty.
My Fridge door cannot close. What could be wrong?
First, you need to carefully examine if there is something that’s blocking the door. Ensure the fridge is level to prevent the door from gaping open.
Check the door seal to ensure it’s not damaged, and if it’s not in good condition, consider replacing it.
Why is my refrigerator leaking water at the bottom?
A blocked defrosted drain can cause water to leak from your refrigerator. To unblock the drain, flush it with hot water. You must also ensure your fridge is level and not leaning forward since water may not be able to drain out.
How come my fridge doesn’t turn on?
If your fridge doesn’t turn on, there might be a problem with the overload relay or starting capacitor. The overload relay may be overheating or arcing and you may need to replace it. The temperature control may also be faulty.
For all these diagnostic tests, you would need a qualified technician to ensure utmost safety and quality service.
My fridge is not cooling properly. What could be the problem?
There are several possible reasons why your fridge may not be cooling properly. First, you need to make sure the fridge is plugged in, and the thermostat has not been altered accidentally.
Overloading the fridge can limit air circulation inside or block air vents. You also need to check the refrigerator condenser coils which are usually located below or behind your fridge.
Unplug the refrigerator and then try cleaning them. If these tips do not work, you need to have the fridge professionally serviced since the evaporator fan, condenser fan motor or start relay may be faulty.
Why does my fridge make a lot of noise?
Normal operation of the refrigerator usually causes some noise. However, if the noise is unusual, there may be an underlying problem that needs to be alleviated.
If the noise is originating from the back of the fridge, the condenser fan, defroster timer, or the compressor could be faulty.
In such a case there is no quick fix you can do, and you will have to replace the entire part through professional technician assistance.
Should I repair or replace my broken fridge?
At Nationwide Appliances Repair, we always want what’s best and economical for you. Our technicians troubleshoot your refrigerator to determine the best alternative.
We don’t always recommend fixing; we consider many factors before deciding which option makes more economic sense. Some of the elements you need to consider include age of the fridge and energy efficiency.
8. FAQ’s for Appliance Repairs
Appliance not working properly
When your appliance is not working as it should, it may be a sign of a problem which if not repaired is likely to fail you, or worse, be a danger to you.
As a general rule of thumb, when your appliance, be it a fridge or dishwasher or any other, starts to malfunction or ceases to work correctly, you should seek professional help.
Appliances are built to perform specific tasks and if they aren’t doing that, a professional can help restore them to their optimum working condition.
Appliance making a loud noise
This is a common problem, especially with refrigerators, washing machines, and microwaves. It’s normal for some appliances to make some sound because of their working mechanisms such as fans in refrigerators and magnetrons in microwaves.
However, these sounds should not be loud. If your appliance is making a disturbingly loud or strange noise, something could be wrong. If the noise doesn’t stop after a while, contact an appliance repair to diagnose the problem.
Appliance producing sparks
Sometimes appliances spark when you turn them on. This could be dangerous to you and your appliance.
If you notice sparks inside a refrigerator or see your stove sparking when you try to light it, unplug the appliance and call a technician to avoid more problems.
If it’s your electrical outlet that sparks when you plug in your appliances, call an electrician to fix it before you damage your appliance or get injured.
Appliance-causing power flickers
If a specific appliance is causing lights to flicker or power surges, it may have a problem that requires repair. Therefore, call a qualified technician to examine it.
Ice in the refrigerator
If you notice ice in your fridge, it’s probably because of a clogged defrost drain. This keeps your fridge from running properly and can be brought about by several reasons.
One of the common causes is a faulty door seal which allows air to pass into the refrigerator and cause ice to build up. Therefore, call for a refrigerator repair.
A leaking washing machine
If your washer is leaking, it may be the drain pump that is damaged or cracked. The pump cannot be repaired but can be replaced by a professional.
Another possible reason for the leak is a torn tub seal. Either way, call a technician to diagnose the cause and fix it.
Fresh food compartment getting warm
A common reason why the fresh food compartment can get warm is leaving the refrigerator door open.
If the door is closed and the compartment continues to be warm, it may be a problem with the refrigerator’s thermostat, heater or time. Therefore, contact a technician.
Oven taking longer to heat up
When your oven starts to take longer to heat up when cooking food, it could be due to a number of reasons.
For electric ovens, it may indicate an issue with the bake element, and for gas ovens, it could be a problem with the glow-bar ignitor. In either case, you’ll need to seek repair services from a qualified provider.
Microwave plate not spinning
If the plate doesn’t spin, food will not cook consistently. It could be a burned out or worn out motor that’s making the plate not to spin, or it could also be an issue with the main control board. Call a technician for accurate diagnosis.
How much time will it take to perform the repair?
It is hard to say how much time a repair will take as it depends on the item and the extent of the repair.
